The Project Director of Graduate Internship Scheme (GIS), Dennis Chukwu, said 41, 161 graduates have benefitted from the Federal Government scheme on career development and entrepreneurship skills training.
The director who was speaking yesterday at the exit training of 50 graduates in Abuja, organized by the Federal Ministry of Finance said over 35,000 have exited the scheme, with thousand of them having secured jobs.
Chukwu noted that many had secured credit facilities and grants to expand businesses they set up using GIS stipends and others set cooperative associations, some of which have transformed to SMEs saying rather than seeking for work , they are becoming employers.
“The purpose of setting up the Graduate Internship Scheme, which is for unemployed graduates to acquire employable skills, is being achieved,” he said.
One of the interns, Robert Roger Ekanem, said the training has opened his mind to know that he cannot look for job but will rather set up a system that will employ other youths.
